BBI surpasses brink to be introduced to the national assembly

Feb 23rd 2021- The BBI amendment constitution of 2020 will now be introduced in both the national assembly and senate after being ratified by 28 county assemblies, surpassing the threshold of 24 county assemblies.

This comes as, by the time of publishing, at least 15 county assemblies simultaneously passed the Bill raising the tally to 28 counties. This, now being referred to as Super Tuesday identifying it to what the former prime minister Raila Odinga stated it as.

Sixteen county assemblies have today unanimously passed the bill after debate and they include Bungoma, Nyamira and Kakamega from Western Kenya, Narok from Rift valley, Makueni Machakos and Kitui from Eastern.

Other counties are Lamu from the Coast region and Nyeri Kirinyaga and Nyandarua county assemblies from Mt. Kenya region. Garissa county governor Ali Korane has lauded the MCA’s for approving the bill and becoming the first county in North Eastern Kenya to pass it. 

The BBI BIll has so far only been rejected by the Baringo County Assembly.
