Manchester City hit Tottenham 3-0 and catch them if you can

Feb 13 2021 Manchester City beat Tottenham 3-0 to go seven points clear on the English premier league table.

Ilkay Gundogan scored twice after Rodri had put City ahead from the penalty spot midway through the opening period. The win extends City’s  winning streak to 15 games with 15 games to play.

It was a long night for Tottenham and their manager Jose Mourinho especially that they had  won the first meeting between these sides in November, Tottenham were top of the table.

Since then, City have taken 41 points from a possible 45 to take a decisive advantage in the title race.

In contrast, Spurs have now collected 16 points in 14 games and lost four games out of five in all competitions and remain in eighth.

Aside from the Harry Kane free-kick that hit the post in the opening minutes, Ederson had virtually nothing to do until Erik Lamela fired straight at him just before the hour.

It was their fourth defeat in five and for City this was sweet revenge as they enjoyed a ninth consecutive top-flight win at the start of a calendar year – equaling another record now shared with Bolton (1906) and Manchester United (2009).

The closest rival Leicester City beat champions Liverpool 3-1 all but end reds hopes of defending the title.

Spurs will face City again in the Carabao Cup Final on April 25.
