September 16th 2020 – The Senate has for the 10th time failed to agree on the revenue allocation formula following president Uhuru Kenyatta’s meeting with part of the house leadership earlier yesterday. The Senate however welcomed the proposal by President Uhuru to allocate 53 billion shillings to the counties in the next financial year.

President and Senate’s leadership held talks and came to an agreement that this financial year, the formula that was used last year, will be applied to make sure no county loses.

The 12-member committee chaired by Bungoma Senator and Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja ,was tasked by the senators to examine the proposals presented in the senate meetings, and table a motion to the senate by next week Tuesday.

Our issue has been the money, and money has now been provided, and our stand has always been that no county loses any money, now the committee must make sure that happens. We now need to do simulations and bring a motion to the Senate that will be passed,” said Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jnr, who is also against the third basis sharing formula.

The committee will report to the whole house on Monday before next week’s senate sitting on Tuesday.
