CS Magoha barres National Youth Service from monitoring KCSE

Education CS George Magoha has barred the National Youth Service from monitoring the ongoing Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examinations.

Speaking while officiating the opening of an exam container at the Machakos sub-county director of education office, he said, he was surprised to find the servicemen and women waiting to receive exams.

He emphasized the need for at least two police officers to ensure there is zero exam leakage.

He used the example of the Northern part of Kenya where some exam papers in some centres were tampered with.

Magoha said, “We have realized that some areas in this country have tampered with paper two and this emphasizes the need to have policemen to ensure that one of the two is constantly within the examination center. We are Kenyans and we know what can happen.”

Magoha said no NYS service man or woman should be involved in monitoring the exams, insisting that the available police officers are sufficient.

The CS urged examinations monitors to actively monitor the exams noting that the Government has spent too much money to enhance the integrity of the exams.

He said, “In order to continue to reaffirm this control, then we must remain vigilant. We are aware that people are also trying to peddle fake papers. We are also aware that there are attempts by some candidates to get other people to sit the examinations on their behalf.”

He added, “It is not your duty just to be present in the school, you better check and confirm. Nobody should have access to the examination halls including the center managers unless there’s a very good reason.”
