Gov’t to Name Non-Compliant Clinics as SHA Replaces NHIF

Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has announced that the government will publish a list of unqualified and non-compliant medical facilities by 14th June 2025. The move targets clinics previously contracted under the now-defunct National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) and currently under investigation for fraud.

Speaking at the launch of a partnership between the Ministry of Health and Aga Khan University Hospital, Duale revealed the introduction of a “track and trace” system to monitor drug distribution and medical procedures in hospitals, helping detect illegal operations.

The CS welcomed the new partnership as a major boost for Universal Health Coverage (UHC), noting it would provide critical surgeries such as kidney transplants and heart procedures under the new Social Health Authority (SHA).

Duale said the deal ensures SHA-enrolled patients receive care without out-of-pocket expenses, protecting families from medical-related financial hardship. He called on more health facilities to embrace the model to make Kenya self-reliant in specialised treatment and urged full implementation of the SHA Tariff and Benefits Package.
