KDF Edge Out KFS, GSU Dominate Kenya Prisons in Playoff Battle

By Caleb Mouti

The Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) men’s volleyball team fought hard to secure a narrow 3-2 victory over a determined Kenya Forest Service (KFS) side in a thrilling clash of the 2024-2025 Kenya Volleyball Federation Men’s National League.

KFS started strong, executing ruthless attacks and a solid defensive setup to claim the first set 25-23. However, KDF responded with resilience, edging the second set 27-25 through strategic plays and commanding blocks.

With momentum on their side, KDF took control, winning the third set 25-19. KFS, refusing to back down, bounced back to claim the fourth set 25-19, forcing a decisive fifth set.

However, KDF proved superior in the final moments, sealing the victory with a 15-10 win.

“It was a hard-fought victory. We faced a very tough opponent, and the players had to struggle for this win,” said KDF head coach Elisha Elai.

“After the game, I identified our weak areas, especially in service and backline defense, which we must improve in training.”

Despite the loss, KFS head coach Wachira Gathuria was pleased with his team’s resilience, which earned them the final playoff spot in eighth place.

“We were aiming for a win. The players showed great determination and fought hard.

Despite the loss, securing a place in the playoffs is an achievement, and that’s where our focus shifts now,” Wachira said.

Meanwhile, a dominant GSU side made a statement by sweeping Western Prisons 3-0 (25-19, 25-23, 26-24).

“This victory puts us at the top of the log. Our goal is to be the best team this season,” said GSU head coach Danson Tad.
