The Junior Starlets are intensifying their training in Morocco as they gear up for a crucial two-leg tie against Cameroon in the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.
As part of their build-up, the team is set to play two friendly matches against Morocco’s U17 women’s team in Rabat — the first scheduled for Friday, April 4, 2025, and the second on Monday, April 7, 2025. Both matches will kick off at 9 PM East Africa Time (EAT).
The squad, brimming with youthful energy and determination, has been undergoing rigorous drills at their training camp, focusing on tactical discipline, endurance, and team chemistry.
Head coach Mildred Cheche expressed confidence in the team’s progress, highlighting the players’ growing cohesion and technical sharpness.
“The camp is going on well, and the players are psyched up. We have two friendly matches against Morocco which will guide us to know where we are as a team and help the players gain confidence,” said Cheche.
“Our focus is on Cameroon — they are a very experienced side with a strong striking force. We will have a plan to fortify our defensive backline.”
Meanwhile, Junior Starlets captain Halima Imbachi echoed her coach’s sentiments as the team intensifies its preparations.
“All the players are focused in the camp, and the friendly matches against Morocco will be of much benefit to us,” she said. “We are focused on qualifying for the World Cup, and we are ready to face Cameroon.”
The first leg against Cameroon is set for April 18, 2025, at Nyayo National Stadium in Nairobi, with the return leg scheduled for April 25, 2025, in Yaoundé, Cameroon.
