The National Police Service (NPS) has refuted claims of being partisan after Inspector general of police Douglas Kanjaa attended president Willaim Ruto Nyeri’s political rally
Law Society of Kenya President Faith Odhiambo called out the police IG after he was spotted in Nyeri at a politically charged event with President William Ruto, who is in Central Kenya on a development tour and demanded for his public apology
The LSK chief accused the Inspector General of failing to act impartially, claiming that a person holding Kanja’s position is “exempt from acting at the whims of any person or advancing any purpose that does not reflect the Constitutional principles of National Security.”
The NPS has clarified that IG Kanja’s presence in Nyeri alongside President Ruto was in line with his official duties, which include overseeing enhanced security for the Head of State as he tours Central Kenya, as per Section 24 of the National Police Service Act 2011 and the NPS Standing Orders Chapter 7 Section 8.
NPS categorically refutes these claims and reaffirms the IG’s unwavering commitment to constitutional impartiallity in serving all Kenyans, devoid of any political bias,” a statement from the NPS read.
“At no time has the IG engaged in activities that could undermine the neutrality of his office.”
