Who’s to blame? Morans forfeit match, Tunisia bags 20 points over flight issues

The Kenya Men’s National Basketball team Morans forfeit their match against Tunisia and lost points in the Afrobasket Window 3 Tournament.

Morans left for Libya Friday instead of the planned Thursday over flight issues, forcing the national team to forfeit their match after arriving at the venue late.

The forfeiture has granted opponents Tunisia 20 points, denting the chances of Morans to qualify into the coveted competition.

In a statement, the Kenya National Basketball federation said, ‘We regret the forfeiture of the Tunisia match over unforeseen logistical challenges, making it impossible for the National Men’s basketball Morans team to arrive in Tripoli, Libya on time to honor our opening match.”

The team had an option to travel to Tunisia but the connecting flight to Libya was unavailable.

This prompted the Ministry of sports and the sports fund to intervene and secured a chartered flight for the team, raising eyebrows over the level of preparedness in the President Paul Otula led federation.

The statement however, adds, “Kenya’s chances remain high and the players are in high spirits to clinch their remaining matches.”

Team Kenya is currently third in Group E with four points from three matches. Morans has Angola on Saturday and Guinea on Sunday, the 23rd of February in their menu.

The latest debacles is the latest in a series of misfortunes befalling the national teams, following their ‘sisters’ woeful outing at the FIBA Afrobasket qualifiers in Cairo, Egypt.

The Lionesses came back home with only one win – a 87-53 win over Burundi – while losing to South Sudan, Uganda, and Egypt.
