Over 1.3 million Grade 6 students across Kenya have begun their Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) as part of the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
The assessment covers six subjects, with Mathematics, English, and Integrated exams scheduled for the first day.
Rehearsals were held last Friday, with primary schools nationwide preparing students for the assessments by reviewing guidelines, arranging exam rooms, removing classroom decorations, clearing wall charts, and ensuring desks were tidy.
Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) officials precided over the exercise with KNEC Chairman, Prof Julius Nyabundi, and CEO, Dr. David Njengere, leading the distribution of assessment materials.
Dr. Njengere urged the centre managers to allow the candidates to sit the assessment in a natural environment.
Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Migos, marking the official start of the exams in Westlands, Nairobi, assured the public that the Ministry has implemented measures to ensure smooth operations for all national exams.
In areas with security concerns, such as Tana River, exams will be conducted within police stations for added safety. Migos affirmed that no candidate would be prevented from sitting the exams.
