ACK issues one week ultimatum to govt to formulate corruption policies

The Anglican Church of Kenya has issued the government a one week ultimatum to formulate an implementation matrix that will address corruption and bloated expenditure in the wake of anti government protests spearheaded by the gen z

Speaking from the All saints Cathedral ACK archbishop Jackson Ole Sapit has  noted that the matrix should  resolve pertinent issues of  youth unemployment employment, lack of national engagement, and expensive educations

“In view of these measures the government must come up with, in the next one week, an implementation matrix of these demands and make it available for public scrutiny and monitoring. There is much talk about creating employment for the youth, let this be backed by a genuine action,” he said.

The Archbishop has now called on President William Ruto to scrape off his pet Affordable Housing Levy, shoot down the newly proposed road maintenance levy as well review the  new higher education funding model which he says has locked out several students from accessing education in universities and institutions of higher learning

“We demand that the government must stop further imposition of taxes and levies especially the recently introduced housing levy and the unjust increased fuel levy must be withdrawn. Taxpaying Kenyans do not see value for the money of these schemes.”

The man of cloth has also has added his voice in condemning the spate of attacks against journalists, urging law enforcement agencies to adhere to set protocol in maintaining law and order

The Clergy has also called on the suspension of the biweekly protests and give the government an opportunity  to implement some of the grievances raised

“We appeal to protesters to suspend protests and give the government time to attend to the raft of demands, some of which the President has begun to address including firing most of his Cabinet Secretaries, signing of the IEBC Amendment Bill 2024 into law and the resignation of the IG of Police among others,” said Ole Sapit at the All Saints Cathedral in Nairobi.
This as he demanded for the appointment of leaders of integrity in the next batch of cabinet secretaries following the dismissal of 21

“Going forward, let the President heed the voice of Kenyans and appoint both the commissioners and the Cabinet men and women of high integrity and competence,” said the Archbishop.

“Let merit and proven track record be the criteria for these appointments. Rewarding political allies and cronies must be avoided at all costs.”

The church has dedicated this coming sunday for repentance and prayers and fasting for the nation so as to peaceful navigate the currents event in the country
