Stars invited for COSAFA ,to replace Malawi & slotted in group C

Harambee Stars have been invited for the 2024 COSAFA Championship which will be staged in South Africa from June 26- July 7, as a replacement for Malawi, who have pulled out of the tournament.

Football Kenya Federation  boss Nick Mwendwa says this will be a great opportunity for head coach Engin Firat to build up his team ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers which start in September.

Stars will be drawn in Group C and will clash with Zambia, Comoros and Zimbabwe in tough matches that will give head coach Engin Firat plenty to think about and also test his squad with good teams.

Record seven-time winners Zambia will be looking to become the first team to win three COSAFA Cup titles in a row if they can navigate the group.

Hosts South Africa and Botswana will lock horns yet again in the most played fixture in COSAFA Cup history after landing in Group A.

The draw for the 12 teams pitted the neighbours together for the ninth COSAFA Cup tournament in a row, with Botswana yet to win outright in any of their 12 previous meetings.
