Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has announced that city hall will confirm the senior support II staff alias the green army into permanent and pensionable terms and resolve the longstanding issues of salary delays.
Sakaja has made the announcement in Ruaraka Embakasi West when he accompanied President Willaim Ruto in popularizing the climate worx program set to absorb 4000 youth into employment.
The Kenya County Government workers Union had issued a seven days strike notice if City Hall fails to absorb the workers into PNP.
The union noted that the contracts of the green army officials were due to expire the 8th of August.
“‘After long consultations, today we announce that the Nairobi county government has permanently employed the green army officials,” Sakaja mentioned.
The Kenya county government workers union had claimed Thursday morning that the county government was non committal to absorb the workers who are responsible to maintain the dignity of the county since they were hired on a contract basis in 2023
Speaking to the press, Nairobi city branch secretary Calvince Okello has accused the county of violating labour laws including extending a six month probation and further blamed the county of plotting a scheme of disenfranchising the workers and hire a new lot
” We have been in service for over two years awaiting full absorption. We shall lead strikes every single day if City hall fails to resolve our issues,” Okello remarked.
The Green Army, operating under the Green Nairobi Department, has played a pivotal role in the CBD clean-up, aiming to create a more organised and hygienic urban environment.
Recently, the team shifted its focus to residential areas to extend its impact across the city, fostering a culture of cleanliness and environmental responsibility.
