DIG Lagat is free to resume offical duties

Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat is free to resume his official duties after Justice Chacha Mwita declined to issue interim orders blocking his resumption to office amid an ongoing legal challenge filed by activist Eliud Matindi.

Justice Mwita indicated that all parties must be heard before any substantive decision can be made on the matter.

The High Court judge instead directed Lagat to file his official response to the suit by July 23, allowing the case to proceed through proper legal channels.

Matindi had moved to court seeking to block Lagat’s return to office, citing concerns that have yet to be detailed publicly.

The activist is challenging the legality or propriety of Lagat’s tenure or conduct, though the specifics remain under judicial consideration.

Lagat has picked a top city lawyer to represent him in case where Four activists want the top police boss prosecuted for murder charges

The activists, namely Julius Ogogoh, Khelef Khalifa, Francis Auma and Peter Agoro claim that state investigative bodies have been compromised and are dragging their feet on the matter.

They argue that a private prosecution is the only viable route to justice for the slain influencer, whose death has sparked national outrage and calls for police accountability.

In their court papers, the activists are also urging the court to bar DIG Lagat from accessing his office, interfering with the ongoing investigations, or contacting any potential witnesses, most of whom are his junior officers.
