Court postpones day six suspects will enter plea in Albert Ojwang’ murder case

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has approved murder charges against Central Police Station OCS Samson Talaam, Police Constables James Mukhwana and Peter Kimani, and three others over the death of Albert Ojwang while in police custody.

DPP Renson Ingonga confirmed that the decision followed the conclusion of investigations and submission of case files by the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA).

The six suspects who appeared before the Kibera High Court to answer to murder charges said to have assaulted Ojwang while in custody at the Central Police Station, Nairobi, leading to his death on June 8.

However, the plea hearing was postponed after it was discovered that two of the suspects, police officer Peter Kimani and John Ngige Gitau, lacked legal representation.

Justice Kavedza ordered that the case be heard on June 24, 2025, to allow for legal counsel to be obtained and the suspects to enter a plea.

Speaking to the media, the lawyer of the respondents said today’s arraignment was a plot of the state to thwart wednesday protests  as it bypassed legal tenets of representation.
