NPS on the spot to name all officers linked with Albert Ojwang’s death

The National Police Service is now under pressure to release the names and take action against arresting officers who ferried Albert Ochieng Ojwang from Homabay county to the Central police station in Nairobi after an autopsy ruled out that the slain influencer had self inflicted injuries leading to his death.

Speaking on behalf of five pathologists who examined Albert’s cause of death, govt pathologist Bernard Midia revealed that he died after suffering a fatal head injury, neck compression, and multiple external wounds, pointing to assault rather than an accident.

The National Police Service has so far only named interdicted police officers OCS Samson Talaam, duty officer Samuel Ng’ang’a, Corporal Charles Muruki, and police constables Debian Lusweti, Peter Kimani, and Evaline Kanyiri from the central police station

Speaking after the release of the autopsy report, LSK President Faith Odhiambo urged IPOA to investigate the police officers linked to the murder and leave no stone unturned urging NPS to take action against the arresting officers.

“We will continue to issue pressure. And we also tell our friends in IPOA, we want to see action. We do not want to see you making merry with the National Police Service. We want to see you taking action. And this is one thing that we are not going to take excuses about,” she declared.

The LSK boss further warned IPOA that Kenyans wouldn’t listening to claims that the police were giving them hard time in getting information.

In reference to IPOA boss Isaac Hassan standing with police chiefs during update on Ojwang’s death, Odhiambo alluded to that showing a good working relationship.

“We are not going to listen to any excuse you’re telling us that you’re not being able to collect or not being able to get information. We have seen you sitting and talking to the heads of the National Police Service. We want to ensure that you shall be held accountable as well. You are the one who has been given the responsibility of investigating these police officers. We expect an expeditious process to be done. We expect to see the results and members of the public informed of what you have since found,” she underscored.

Members of the national assembly and their senate counterparts have called for the arrest of the Deputy Inspector general of police Eliud Lagat and record a statement at a police station as he was named a complainant in the case

Speaking separately before the senate and the national assembly plenaries, the lawmakers have vowed to  take action and reveal the faces behind Ojwang’s death.

Speaker Moses Wetangula has directed the Security Committee Chair Gabriel Tongoyo to give an interim report on the killing of Albert Ojwang on Thursday as MPs condemn the loss of life

Led by Suba North Mp Millie Odhiambo, the lawmakers want the dots leading to Ojwang death joined and they castigated police conflicting reports

Ojwang’s father is now demanding answers from law enforcement questioning why officers had taken his son from their home only for him to be found dead.

The family lawyer has pointed at defensive wounds on Ojwang’s hands and back, further casting doubt on claims that he accidentally harmed himself in custody.
