African delegates to convene in Mombasa for teens, youth sexual health conference

Over 1,000 delegates from across more than 30 African nations are set to convene in Mombasa Kenya for the 8th Pan-African Adolescent and Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (AYSRHR) Scientific Conference in the month of June

From June 24 to 27, 2025, the high-profile gathering will be centred under the theme, “Adolescent and Youth Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights in a World of Emerging Threats and Opportunities,” and comes at a time when the continent faces evolving challenges that disproportionately impact young people’s health, rights, and futures.

The conference is organized by Reproductive Health Network Kenya (RHNK) in partnership with the Ministry of Health, will be graced by the Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale.

During a strategic pre-conference engagement session with journalists and key stakeholders, RHNK said the conference will see youth voices amplified to bolster public discourse around adolescent SRHR.

The session featured key remarks from RHNK’s Executive Director Nelly Munyasia and representatives from both government and civil society, laying the groundwork for inclusive and evidence-based discussions.

Dr. Edward Serem, Head of the Division of Reproductive and Maternal Health at the Ministry of Health, emphasized the urgency of the moment: “This is a pivotal time to accelerate awareness and action on adolescent SRHR at the grassroots level.” As the continent faces both challenges and opportunities in a rapidly changing landscape, the conference stands as a vital rallying point for collective action, ensuring that Africa’s youth are informed, empowered, and supported to shape a healthier future.

The 2025 edition promises dynamic plenaries, scientific sessions, and intergenerational forums. Youth-led innovations and policy roundtables will take center stage as participants share strategies to address persistent concerns such as HIV/AIDS, early pregnancies, child marriage, and gender-based violence
