Potters house founding pastor TD Jakes has stepped down from active role as the lead pastor after serving for 30 years.
The emotional Sunday announcement comes months after the 67 years old suffered a massive heart attack while delivering a sermon on stage at the church.
He announced along with his wife Serita Jakes by his side that his daughter and son-in-law, pastors Sarah Jakes Roberts and Toure Roberts, will take over as soon as July.
TD Jakes will however remain on the Potter’s House Board of Directors and spiritual overseer..
Members of the congregation said they were left feeling a mix of emotions after the announcement, adding that although losing a pastor who’s impacted the community for years hurt, they hoped the change would help The Potter’s House into the next generation
In November last year during a sermon, Jakes was hospitalized after having a massive heart attack on stage. Recounting the events pastor Jakes said that doctors said if he’d arrived five minutes later, he would have died.
