Members of the Redeemed Gospel Church in Miritini Mombasa County were forced to hold their Sunday service outside the church premises due to an ongoing land dispute with a private developer.
The worshippers claim they have faced persistent harassment from the private developer , who asserts ownership of the land where the church has stood for over 20 years.
The congregants held their service by the roadside next to the church, alleging that the developer had hired youths to forcibly evict them from the property.
Pastor Cyrus Kazungu of Redeemed Gospel Church expressed outrage over the incident, stating that such actions, fueled by land disputes, should not occur in religious institutions like churches, schools, or mosques.
“We are not people of war we preach the gospel of peace and this gospel is unstoppable we shall preach it until Jesus comes.”
The church members have called on the National Land Commission to intervene and address the irregularities surrounding the land dispute and clarify why a survey that was previously conducted to resolve the issue seems to have stalled.
