The Law Society of Kenya (LSK) has called for an urgent investigation into the abduction and killing of Wajir MCA Yussuf Hussein Ahmed, whose mutilated body was found in Lake Yahud.
LSK President Faith Odhiambo urged Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja to apprehend and prosecute those responsible for the crime.
“We demand an immediate, thorough, and independent investigation into the abduction and murder of Hon. Yussuf Hussein Ahmed. We urge the Director of Public Prosecutions to exercise his powers under Article 157(4) of the Constitution and direct the Inspector General of Police to urgently conduct investigations to apprehend and prosecute all those involved in this heinous crime,” said LSK President Faith Odhiambo.
Ahmed’s body, which showed signs of severe torture, burns, and beatings, was identified by his family at a local mortuary on Monday. He had been missing for over a month after being abducted on 13th September 2024 in Nairobi by unknown assailants.
The LSK vowed to closely monitor the case, condemning extrajudicial killings and enforced disappearances. They emphasized the need for swift justice to uphold constitutionalism and human rights.
“The LSK strongly condemns this extrajudicial killing, which not only violates the rule of law but also instils fear and insecurity in the public. The perpetrators must be brought to justice without delay to restore confidence in our justice system,” she added.
Despite the family reporting Ahmed’s abduction, no action has been taken by authorities so far.
