The fifth edition of the Super Cup Waziri Super Cup is set to kick off on the the 10th of October with a line up of disciplines prepared for the 21 day event.
The edition will be going down in Webuye, Bungoma county as both men and women in football, rugby, basketball team are now charged to front themselves for the tournament.
The founder of the Super Cup Salim Waziri says this year’s edition will be drawing more attention to the grassroots teams and will be seeing up to 32 teams, putting their best feet forward for the coveted prices
“I have always believed in the potential of young people in our region. Seeing how many talented athletes go unnoticed, I wanted to create a platform that would allow them to shine.’ Waziri said
With a generous prize pool, teams are set to battle for top honors, with the football category offering Ksh50,000 to the champions, Ksh30,000 to the runners-up, and Ksh20,000 for third place.
”I plan to expand the tournament by attracting teams from other regions and countries. We also want to improve the competition infrastructure and organization.” Waziri said, ”The tournament opens new opportunities for young people to help develop their skills and confidence. I see huge potential in many of the athletes involved.”
When asked about his the success of the successive tournament, Waziri said the tournament has already changed the lives of many young people.
”For example, some participants received scholarships to continue their studies, and new business initiatives, such as a car wash, also appeared.” Waziri asserted
The Webuye tournament has attracted a line up of sponsors including Deflam spray over its endeavor to support sports and social projects in Kenya.
