Glowing tributes continue to streaming in following the death of Ulinzi Starlets FC head coach Joseph Wambua Mwanzia after a battle with cancer
Sports Youth Affairs Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has led the football fraternity in mourning the tactician and sent his message of condolences via X handle.
Football Kenya Federation and Harambee stars the social networks including clubs, players and fans are mourning Mwanzia as a tactician who dedicated all his efforts to the development of women’s football.
News of his demise was released by the Department of Defense (DOD) on the club’s official social handles stating that Mwanza had been sick for a long period and had been in and out of the hospital.
DOD expressed their sorrow following Mwanza‘s death, sending a message of condolences to his family and friends.
Former Harambee Stars Head Coach Jacob ‘Ghost’ Mulee termed Wambua as a hard-working coach who had realised a lot of success with Ulinzi Starlets.
However, the CAF A licensed tactician managed to help Starlets win the FKF women’s title with a 2-1 win over Kibera Soccer Ladies.
Mwanzia took charge of Kahawa Queens after early retirement, occasioned by an injury, in 2006.
His breakthrough came when he took charge of Kahawa United men’s team in 2017, guiding them in the County League to an impressive unbeaten run of 23 matches.
Mwanzia was later in 2018 appointed by the Kenya Defence Forces as the head coach of Ulinzi Starlets, and his reign saw the club register success as they managed three consecutive FKF Women’s Cup titles.
