Huawei partners with govt to upgrade & train on cyber security

Chinese telecom firm Huawei has partnered with the Kenyan government to upgrade the skills of the African country’s workforce responsible for protecting the digital infrastructure in public and private sectors.

Senior government officials and Huawei executives said that cultivating cybersecurity professionals is key to safeguarding digital assets from attacks that could derail service delivery and e-commerce.

Principal secretary in the Ministry of Interior and National Administration Raymond Omollo, said the government will leverage the Huawei-sponsored training and capacity-building program targeting public servants and students to enhance security in cyberspace.

“The adoption of cloud technology is no longer an option but a necessity for governments, businesses and organizations globally. However, with these advancements come heightened risks to data security, privacy, and integrity. Cyberattacks are becoming more sophisticated, and the need for robust cloud security measures have never been more critical,” said Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo as he witnessed the graduation of 200 government officials who had completed the training.

Huawei Kenya’s Deputy CEO for Public Affairs Steven Zhang urged the graduates to continue updating their skills due to the dynamic nature of technology.

Zhang thanked the Government of Kenya for considering Huawei as a trusted partner in the Digital Economy and Cyber Space.

“Huawei will always provide secure, trustworthy and high-quality products whilst improving the capabilities of our people and our partners, because cybersecurity is always evolving, and we want to help build capacity in Kenya,” Zhang stated.
