Somalia has successfully attained full membership in the East African Community (EAC) after completing all the requisite steps for integration into the regional bloc.
The EAC secretariat through its social media platform, formerly Twitter (X), noted that Somalia’s full membership status was secured by formally depositing the Instrument of Ratification with the Secretary General of the EAC.
The decision to admit Somalia into the EAC was unanimously endorsed by the heads of state of the existing member countries in November of the previous year.
With this development, Somalia proudly joins the ranks of the EAC’s eight member states, standing alongside Burundi, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kenya, South Sudan, Tanzania, Rwanda, and Uganda.
This strategic move is anticipated to play a crucial role in stimulating economic growth within Somalia, a nation that continues to recover from a tumultuous three decades of war and instability.
The integration into the EAC offers Somalia the prospect of enhanced regional cooperation and economic opportunities, aligning with the collective vision for stability and prosperity in East Africa.
The inclusion of Somalia in the EAC underscores the bloc’s commitment to fostering unity and collaboration among member states, ultimately contributing to the broader goals of shared development and interconnectedness across the East African region.
