Kenya Ports Authority began their Road to BAL Group C Division campaign on a sour note, falling 75-63 to Dynamo of Burundi at the ICT Gymnasium, Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.
Nothing went right for the dockers as Dynamo continued to run rings around them, leading 51-32 mid-way through the third quarter.
They then built a 24-point advantage at 69-41 as the buzzer sounded to end the quarter.
In the decisive quarter, Dynamo who proved too fast for the Kenyans’ liking were already safe despite KPA late surge that saw them take the quarter 22-8.
KPA made a return for the 2022 edition, booking an Elite 16 place after beating Djabal Basket Iconi (Comoros) 120-37 before losing 66-60 to hosts Club Omnisports de la Police (COSPN) in the qualifiers held in Antananarivo.
The Elite 16 hosted in Johannesburg saw the dockers go winless to exit the competition in the group stage.
This year, the dockers will rely on league Most Valuable Player (MVP) Eugene Adera and his national team compatriot Job Byron who have been KPA’s driving force in dominating the local scene.
KPA cannot afford to lose any other remaining games to qualify the Elite 16 against Benin champions Elan Coton and Pazi of Tanzania
