President Ruto Nominates Andrew Musangi As Central Bank Chairperson

President William Ruto has nominated Andrew Mukite Musangi as Chairperson of the Central Bank of Kenya.

Musangi’s nomination was announced on Thursday by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula in a communication to the House.

Mukite’s name has also been forwarded to Parliament for vetting.

He will undergo vetting by the Departmental Committee on Finance and National Planning jointly of the National Assembly jointly sitting with the Senate Standing Committee on Finance and Budget.

“Pursuant to the provisions of Standing Order number 42, I wish to convey a message from His Excellency the President regarding nomination of a person for appointment as the Director of Public Prosecutions. In the message, His Excellency the President nominates Andrew Mukite Musangi for appointment as Chairperson of the Board of the Central Bank of Kenya,” reads the message from the President.

The President picked Musangi from a list of six candidates shortlisted by the Public Service Commission.

Once approved, Musangi will replace Mohammed Nyaoga who exited the position after completing his second tenure in office in June.

The Board of Directors provides oversight of the Bank’s functions by formulating policies, other than the formulation of monetary policy, and reviewing performance.

The Board comprises eleven members: the Chairman, the Governor, the Permanent Secretary to the National Treasury and eight non-executive directors appointed by the President.
