Athletics Kenya world championship trials at Nyayo stadium

Kenyan athletes who are targeting to carry the national flag in the world athletics championships in Budapest are squaring it out at Nyayo stadium in the Athletics Kenya trials.

World record holder in the women 1500 and 5000M Faith Kipyegon has already won her race in the 5000 metres but she will not participate in the 1500 metres.

Ferdinand Omanyala has also won the semi final of the 100 metres and looking to do the same in the final.

The first two athletes to cross the finish line will automatically be selected provided they have qualified as per the World athletics Entry Standards.

Five of the 160 athletes competing already have wild cards. These are defending champions and DL winners from 2022.

1500m women world record holder Faith Kipyegon holds both the defending champion and DL wild cards in the distance and is joined by Emmanuel Korir who is the men’s 800m champion.

Through the DL, 800m Commonwealth Games champion Mary Moraa, world 5000m silver medalist Beatrice Chebet and her men’s counterpart in the distance Nicholas Kimeli have their tickets assured.

AK maintains that doubling at the trials and World Championships will be at the discretion of the federation.
