JKIA runway temporarily closed

The Jomo Kenyatta International Airport’s (JKIA) temporarily closed its runway on Monday after a cargo plane attempted takeoff was aborted due to technical difficulties.

The incident forced a temporary suspension of all incoming and outgoing flights, according to a statement by the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA).

The authority insisted that their priority is the safety of passengers and that they are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible.

“Our top priority is the safety of all passengers and we are working closely with the relevant authorities to resolve this situation as quickly and safely as possible,” KAA said in a statement on Monday morning.

“We regret any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding during this time,”

KAA advised travelers to get in touch with their individual airlines for more details on the status of their flights.

The suspension of the flights from early morning now raises questions after a second runway was approved by the Jubilee government in 2017 but little has been done for construction.

JKIA is one of the busy airports in the continent with connecting flights from Europe and Asia landing and taking off daily.
