Kenya cross country team returns from Australia

The Kenya team that participated in the  World Cross Country Championships are back in the country after bagging ten medals inBathurst, Australia .

The medals included six gold, two silver and two bronze medals.

The Kenya team led by their captain Kibiwot Kandie topped the world in the medal standings despite falling to Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo in the senior men’s race.

Commonwealth Games 5,000m champion Beatrice Chebet, won the senior women’s 10kilometres title as Agnes Jebet settled for bronze in the same race.

The women race was not without drama after Ethiopian Letesenbet Gidey literally collapsed close to the finish line as she was heading for victory although Chebet was hot on her trail.

Athletics Kenya President Jackson Tuwei who accompanied the team to Australia was full of praise for the team the and attributed the performance to athletes hard work and good preparation.

The team was also hosted by Sports CS Ababu Namwamba for a breakfast . The CS promised to reward the athletes for doing the country proud in the championship.
