Gabriel Megalhaes tapped in the only goal from Bukayo Saka’s corner after Chelsea goalkeeper Eduardo Mendy missed it .
The gunner are now on 34 points and Manchester City on 32 .
“It’s a really young team, but they played as a really mature team and it’s a big step against this opposition,” said Mikel Arteta.
Chelsea who have now lost back to back premier league games remain 7th on 21 points.
City, chasing a fifth title in six seasons, will return to the top if they beat Brentford at Etihad Stadium next Saturday in the early kick-off .
However, Arsenal will get to spend the following six weeks at the summit if they defeat Wolves at Molineux on the same day in the late kick-off .
There are no Premier League matches after 13 November until 26 December because of the World Cup, which starts on 20 November.
