Dozens of Nigerians have held demonstrations over the illegal slaughter of donkeys by Chinese nationals.
According to the nationals, the killings continue despite an order by the government to stop the menace.
Civil society groups responsible for the protests are blaming their agriculture minister for allowing foreign nationals to engage in the donkey trade.
This is even as a bill to regulate the donkey business is currently being considered in parliament.
Last month, Nigeria’s customs service intercepted 7,000 donkey body parts at an airport in the commercial hub, Lagos, that were headed to China.
Reports indicate that donkey parts are in demand in China for use in traditional medicine.
