Omanyala thanks Kenyans for support after 100m commonwealth win

Ferdinand Omanyala has thanked Kenyans for the support that gave him morale to win the commonwealth 100 metres in a time of 10.02 seconds .

Omanyala said the support helped him overcome the dismal performance in the world championship where he failed to reach the final.

Omanyala came through in the challenge of Akani Simbine of South africa who came in second to take silver and seconds in the semis.

Yupun Abeykoon of Sri Lanka  took bronze . Kenya also won Silver and bronze in the women 10,000 metres race that was won by scotish Eilish Mc Colgan.

Irene Cheptai took silver after conceding the lead to the Scottish woman Sheila Kiprotich who limped to the finish line came in third to take Bronze.
