PSG sack Mauricio Pochettino

Paris St-Germain have confirmed the departure of head coach Mauricio Pochettino after 18 months in charge.

The exit of former Tottenham boss Pochettino, 50, has been expected for almost a month now but has only just been confirmed.

Former Nice manager Christophe Galtier has replaced the Argentine.Pochettino leaves PSG after guiding them to a record-equalling 10th French title, his first league success as a manager.

His failure in Europe has led to calls for him to be sacked for the last few months despite winning the league title, which has now been confirmed.

Pochettino had long been linked with becoming Manchester United’s long-term replacement for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but Erik ten Hag has now taken over at Old Trafford.

Despite the axe falling on Pochettino, PSG have already signed midfielder Vitinha from Porto and left back Nuno Mendes from Sporting Lisbon for a combined total of around £70million.

Zinedine Zidane was, earlier this summer, mooted as Pochettino’s possible successor but Luis Campos, who has come in as PSG’s football advisor, has turned to Galtier.

Galtier and Campos worked together when Lille won Ligue 1 in 2021, at the expense of Pochettino’s PSG.
