Police in Nigeria say gunmen on Saturday abducted at least 29 people in the Zamfara State.
They say the victims were traveling back home from a wedding ceremony held in Sokoto State when the armed men ambushed a convoy of their vehicles.
According to a police report, some of the victims of the attack were from a local market in Gusau – Zamfara State.
One man who survived the attack said the gunmen had mounted three roadblocks on Saturday evening, trapping vehicles and opening fire on them.
Some travelers managed to escape on foot with gunshot wounds abandoning their vehicles.
The police said security forces have now launched a search for the missing hostages.
This comes as Nigerian authorities are facing increasing criticism for failing to tackle the widespread insecurity including frequent killings and kidnappings for ransom by armed gangs.
