Banana and Coffee farmers in Kisii county have called on Deputy President William Ruto, to address the issues affecting the two sectors in the county if elected President in the August General Election.
Addressing the DP from the county, Rose Obiri who represented the Banana Sector derided the many challenges affecting banana farming including depletion of soil fertility, diseases, and lack of production companies among others.
“We do not have a market, also, the current government had promised to build a banana factory, that is yet to be done,” she said.
James Omingo who represented the Coffee sector in the county, decried the weak coffee production in the county.
“Coffee prices are very low in Kisii County compared to other counties, two our coffee factories to be improved that our coffee quality also improves, and lastly, we want prices of coffee farm inputs to be reduced,” noted Omingo.
DP Ruto is currently holding an economic forum in Kisii, as he is set to visit Nyamira on Thursday.
He will then tour Busia, Bungoma and Trans-Nzoia counties, on Friday, Saturday and Sunday respectively.
