The national council of churches of Kenya has called on President Uhuru Kenyatta, to lead in assuring all Kenyans that the 2022 General Elections and subsequent transitions will be peaceful, free and fair.
Speaking after a meeting with other member of the clergy , NCCK general secretary Rev Canon Chris Kinyanjui said the head of state plays a big role in ensuring the polls are conducted in a conducive environment.
Canon Kinyanjui also intimated that the president was free to support any candidate of choice but be careful tio make sure he acts as the symbol of national unity.
The church leaders also pleaded with Kenyans to avoid hate speech on social media which may cause tension ahead of the August Polls.
The comments of the NCCK came even after CITAM Bishop Calisto Odede had to stop Meru Senator Mithika Linturi from negative campaign remarks in a church function in Meru.
Linturi had started to blame a leader from not accepting lection results but was cut short by the bishop forcing to apologize.
A section of the church has vowed not to allow politicians on the pulpit to campaign but at the same time say the aspiring are welcome to fellowship as any other members.
