Diego Costa to Arsenal?

Diego Costa has waved goodbye to Atletico Mineiro after terminating his contract with the Brazilian club amidst interest from London club Arsenal.

The 33 year old only joined Antonio Mohamed’s side last summer after calling time on his second stint at Atletico Madrid.

But just five months into his spell at the Estadio Mineirao, the Spain striker has parted company with Atletico and could now be heading back to England, with Arsenal reportedly considering a free transfer.

Costa is understood to have held informal discussions with Arsenal, who are on the hunt for a new striker in January.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is expected to leave the Emirates after falling out with manager Mikel Arteta, meaning a replacement is needed this month.

And Costa, who scored 59 goals in 120 appearances for their London rivals Chelsea, is being eyed as a potential short-term option.

Arsenal face competition for his signature, nevertheless, as Brazilian sides Corinthians and Sao Paolo, along with Spanish team Cadiz, are also believed to be interested.
