Forwards Vincent Aboubakar and Karl Toko-Ekambi scored twice each after Ethiopia took an early lead at the Olembe stadium.
Indomitable Lions, who are seeking a sixth Nations Cup title for Cameroon, have now won six games in a row and have both feet in the last 16, with six points to their name.
They next meet Cape Verde in their final group game on Monday.
In the other group A tie Burkina Faso beat Cape Verde 1-0 to register their first win and must beat Ethiopia and hope Cameroon avoid defeat against the islanders to go through to the last 16.
