Timothy Cheruiyot and Helen Obiri eye victory at Doha Diamond league

1500m world  champion Timothy Cheruiyot  will open his season at the 2021 Wanda Doha Diamond League on Friday night. Cheruiyot will be joined by another world champion in the 5000 M Hellen Obiri but this time competing in 3000 metres .

Obiri will be up against  world record holder Letesenbet Gidey from Ethiopia as they line up over 3000m .

The meeting is the second in the 2021 IAAF Diamond League series, which comprises a total of 32 events spread across 13 competitions with the final at Zurich in September. The Doha edition will consist of only 14 senior events.

The event will witness some legendary figures like Shelly-ANn Fraser -Pryce 100m women, Justin Gatlin in 200m men, and Sandra Perkovic (discus throw women) among others take center stage.

The 200m men, 1500m men, triple jump women, and 100m women disciplines will see its second meet of the 2021 Diamond League play out. Kenny Badnarek, Jakob Ingebrigsten, Shaniekka Rickets, and Dina Asher-Smith won gold medals respectively at the aforementioned events in the first meet at the British Grand Prix.

And all the events will take place at the Suheim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha without spectators, owing to the Covid-19 pandemic protocols.
