South Sudan and Malawi to destroy expired covid-19 vaccines

South Sudan’s health ministry is joining Malawi in destroying expired the AstraZeneca vaccine.

South Africa’s Incident Manager Richard Laku, says his the government will not use the 60,000 vaccines. On the other hand, Malawi’s Ministry of Health spokesperson, Joshua Malango says, the country is destroying 16,440 doses.

The World Health Organization however emphasizes that vaccines can be used for up to 36 months . It is now asking the countries to preserve the vaccines.

In addition, Mr. Malango argues, the vaccine in his country is already out of the cold chain system. He adds that, the temperature of the vaccine is fluctuating and losing its potency.

He further says the other reason for destroying the vaccines is that most people are hesitant to get vaccines they think are bad.
