Counting is underway for the Machakos county senatorial by election.
All the polling centres closed at 5 pm but those who were still on the queue were allowed to vote.
The by election has however experienced a low voter turnout throughout the day . The independent electoral and boundaries commission says they are satisfied with the voting process despite the low turnout.
Early in the day there were claims of voter bribery by Wiper party candidate Agnes Kavindu, a report that has been dismissed by the IEBC.
There are eleven candidates in the by election but the tight race is expected between Wiper’s Agnes Kavindu and UDA’s Urbanus Ngengele.
Mutua Katuku of Maendeleo chap chap withdrew from the race to support Kavindu. ODM and Jubilee party also did not field a candidate in support for the new found friendship with Wiper Party through the BBI.
The commission said that all 11 candidates are on the ballot, even after Mutua Katuku of the Maendeleo Chap Chap Party withdrew from the by-election on Tuesday.
