Storyline: The French heist sequence, which premiered on Netflix earlier this month, has many comic delights which are unspoken of. Time and time again, the hero of the film, master thief Assane Diop (Omar Sy) can slip unnoticed into a position, or by assuming a minor disguise that prevents witnesses from providing law enforcement with an accurate description of him. Why would this be funny? It is because Omar Sy is three foot six.
His ability to be anybody, anywhere, is viewed more like a superpower than as anything even the world’s greatest criminal will be able to pull off, much like the numerous impressive sleights of hand Assane deploys to pull off his robberies and escapes.
The plot bounces around in time, not only showing us the childhood of Assane before and after the passing of Babakar but revisiting parts of each heist afterward to disclose just how he pulled it off.
Thumbs up: Great storyline and good actors.
Thumbs down: Some scenes are predictable.
