Kenyan Brigid Kosgei shortlisted for 2021 Laureus awards

Feb 24th, 2021 Kenyan Brigid Kosgei has been shortlisted  for the sports woman of the year in the  2021 Laureus world sports awards .

Kosgei makes the list after winning the London Marathon in a time of  2:18:58 .

Kosgei will battle with Japanese tennis sensation Naomi Osaka who recently won the Australian Open .  Ugandan Joshua Cheptegei is in the sportsman of the year category .

Cheptegei broke the 5000 and 10,000 meters record .

Cheptegei will go against among other Lewis Hamilton, Lebron James and Robert Lewandowski .

 Hamilton won a seventh Formula 1 drivers’ crown in 2020 , Lewandowski was the FIFA player of the year and Lebron won the NBA title with LA Lakers  .

Champions League winners Bayern Munich, are on the team of the year shortlist together with Liverpool who won their first EPL title in 30 years.

This year’s winners will be announced in May as part of a virtual event.

Remaining with the awards ,  box girls Kenya boxing has been shortlisted for the Sport for good award .

The organization uses boxing to support at-risk girls in underserved slum communities in Nairobi. It will compete against two  sports organizations from Colombia and Germany
