The Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) has maintained fuel prices in its May review, offering temporary relief to motorists and households amid economic pressures.
In a statement released on Wednesday, 14th May, EPRA announced that prices of super petrol, diesel, and kerosene will remain unchanged between 15th May and 14th June 2025.
In Nairobi, super petrol will continue to retail at Ksh174.63, diesel at Ksh164.86, and kerosene at Ksh148.99. In Mombasa, the respective prices are Ksh171.39, Ksh161.62, and Ksh145.75, while in Kisumu, fuel will sell at Ksh174.67 for petrol, Ksh165.24 for diesel, and Ksh149.42 for kerosene.
EPRA noted that these prices are inclusive of 16 per cent VAT as stipulated by the Finance Act 2023 and the Tax Laws (Amendment) Act 2024, along with adjusted excise duties for inflation.
Despite the stability in local pump prices, the average landed cost of fuel products recorded a drop in April. Super petrol decreased by 2.95 per cent, diesel by 6.62 per cent, and kerosene by 4.52 per cent.
EPRA attributed the unchanged prices to global fuel pricing dynamics, as Kenya imports all its refined petroleum products. The regulator reiterated that monthly reviews are influenced by international prices and currency exchange rates.
The decision to hold fuel prices steady is expected to cushion Kenyans from additional transport and commodity price hikes, with many keeping a close eye on future global oil trends and EPRA’s next review.
