Safaricom Imposes New Charges on Reverse Calls

Safaricom has announced a revision to its reverse call service, introducing a new fee structure for customers who use the service more than twice in a single day.

Previously, the service allowed for unlimited free reverse calls, but under the updated terms, users will now be charged Sh0.5 for each reverse call request beyond the first two in a day.

This change is aimed at preventing the misuse of the service, as Safaricom observed that some customers were opting to use reverse calls even when they had sufficient airtime.

The reverse call feature, which Safaricom introduced in June 2019 as part of its “Please Call Me” service, allows customers to transfer the cost of a call to the receiver. The service remains available only for calls within the Safaricom network.

“This service will be free to the initiator of the reverse call for up to two requests in a day. Subsequent reverse call requests made within the day (after the first two requests) will be charged an access fee of Ksh. 0.5 per reverse call request,” Safaricom stated in the revised terms.

Safaricom’s new fee structure reflects the company’s efforts to promote responsible usage while continuing to offer convenient services to its customers.
