President Ruto Pledges Ksh 5 Million for World Record Athletes

President William Ruto has reiterated his strong support for Kenyan athletes, emphasizing the government’s commitment to rewarding excellence in sports.

Speaking in Eldoret during a breakfast meeting, President Ruto announced that the government would award Ksh 5 million to any Kenyan athlete who breaks a world record.

He also reaffirmed that the Sports Fund will be strictly used to support athletes and enhance sports infrastructure, reiterating that his 2022 directive stands firm, with no diversion of funds to other areas.

President Ruto also praised the Kenyan team for their historic achievement and for flying the Kenyan flag high during the global competition.

He specifically lauded Eliud Kipchoge, despite not finishing the race, and urged Kenyans to criticize athletes less and celebrate them more.

“I know how people were disappointed. Many people I know made a lot of comments, how could Eliud not finish? But Eliud we celebrate you. You have held our flag high,” Ruto said.

Ruto hailed the “limitless” man as a great Kenyan, urging the citizens to criticise the athletes less and embrace them more.
