Barack Obama showers admiration to Joe Biden after decision to drop re-election

by Brandon John

Former United States President Barack Obama has praised Joe Biden as a patriot,  saying that when the  President decided not to seek re-election, he put American interests ahead of his own .

Vice-president and potential Democratic nominee, Kamala Harris and Bill and Hillary Clinton, have also released statements lauding acknowledgements to Biden for his years of service.

Obama said ” the president had passed the first major piece of gun safety legislation in 30 years while, he mobilised the world to stand up against Russian aggression in Ukraine”.

Biden announced the decision of dropping from the race earlier on Sunday, kowtowing to pressure from within his own party after his debate against Donald Trump which was deemed to be a disaster for him.

This has therefore seen a growing number of Democrats extending support behind Kamala Harris as the party’s presidential nominee.

While broadening her appeal beyond the base, Harris will need to secure the backing of at least 1,986 Democratic delegates to secure the party’s nomination.
