Nakuru scribes demand prosecution of officer who shot collegue during protests

Journalists in Nakuru town have taken to the streets to protest the shooting of their colleague Catherine Kariuki during yesterday’s anti-government demonstrations.

The scribes are marching to the office of the Nakuru county regional commander to petition for the prosecution of the officer responsible for the heinous acts

Speaking to the press, the Nakuru journalist caucus have condemned the police actions against the journalist who was donned in press uniform

Seperately, the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has condemned the shooting of Mediamax journalist terming the incident as shameful and terrifying.

“The shooting of Catherine Wanjeri Kariuki, a journalist attached to Kameme TV, while in the company of other journalists and the police is shameful and terrifying,”

MCK CEO David Omwoyo called on the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) to expedite investigations and bring charges to the officers involved.

He insisted on the importance of journalists in holding critical institutions accountable.

Three people, among them a journalist working with Kameme radio and TV were shot during the anti-government protests in Nakuru

At the same time, the Kenya Editors Guild has pledged to lead protests over forceful abductions and state intimidation of the press.
