IPOA dispatches rapid response team to probe killing of Pakistani journalist

The independent Policing Oversight Authority says it has forwarded Four case files touching on police officers who are allegedly responsible for the murder of protesters.

The IPOA says the matter now lies within the office of the director of public prosecution to press charges on the officers after the investigations.

Three more people  have been confirmed dead from yesterday’s protests,taking the death toll since the demonstrations began about a month ago to 53.

In a report signed by KNCHR Chairperson Roseline Odede,from the 53,  21 individuals are from Nairobi with the others spread across the other counties.

Police have continued to use excessive force while dealing with protesters, opening fire indiscriminately.

KNHCR added that some of the victims succumbed to injuries sustained during the protests while receiving treatment at various medical facilities, while others were found among the debris of the burned Sunbeam Mall in Nairobi.

Yesterday One of the deceased was shot dead in Kitengela, Kajiado County, where protests turned chaotic after police officers lobbed tear gas canisters at the protesters.

Another was killed in the Nairobi Central Business District, with CCTV footage capturing the death of the protester who was felled by a police bullet.

Additionally, Odede pointed out that 59 people have reportedly been abducted by the police and reported missing since the start of the demos.
