Spain are the Euros 2024 champions, extending England’s 58 years wait

Spain won 2-1 in the Euro 2024 final at Berlin’s Olympiastadion to extend  England’s quest to end 58 years of pain and disappointment.

Gareth Southgate’s side were sunk by Mikel Oyarzabal’s late winner to leave England heartbroken again in a second successive European Championship final and unable to end the long wait for success for the men’s team.

This was their second successive European Championship final loss after they were beaten on penalties by Italy three years ago.

A Cole Palmer strike cancelled out Nico Williams’ opener to give England hope, but that was dashed with four minutes remaining as substitute Mikel Oyarzabal pounced from close range.

Spain’s young star wingers combined to give them the lead two minutes after the break as Lamine Yamal’s pass opened up space for Nico Williams to beat England keeper Jordan Pickford with a powerful low finish.

The win by Spain gives the youngstars  an opportunity to meet Lionel Messi in the Finalissima 2025 following Argentina won the Copa America after crashing Colombia one nil.

Martinez bagged the tournament winner in the 112th minute, leading Argentina to a 1-0 win and a second-straight Copa America title.
